Be Sure To Plan For Basic Pool Maintenance Between Cleaning In Order To Get The Most Out Of Your Swimming Pool

It'd be wonderful if we could simply clean our pools once and then leave it alone until the following pool cleaning service arrived. If you want to swim in your pool as often as possible, however, this may not be realistic. It's just like any other room in your home; with swimming pool maintenance between cleaning, it's critical to go through it quickly and verify that nothing untidy is left behind. For example, swimming pools can be a safe haven for bugs and other creepy crawlies, which if left unchecked, can damage equipment and clog filters. This is why it is important to go over the pool in between visits from your pool cleaning service.

Swimming Pool Maintenance Between Cleaning

The first step in keeping your swimming pool clean in between maintenance is to start by going through all of the common areas a bug or other organic debris can get into. This includes skimmers, drains, steps and ladders. A good way to do this would be to take apart any part of your pool equipment that can come apart with ease. For example, if you have a leaf trap built into the drain of your pool it may just be as simple as pulling out the and giving it a thorough going over. It is important to be gentle with all of the equipment so as not to damage any part of it, but a lot of the time if your pool parts have been properly maintained this should not be a problem.

Basic Pool Cleaning

Once you have gone over all of the places that could potentially hide bugs and other crawly things from view go ahead and take a look at the rest of your pool. The following items are easy to spot, because they are usually bright in color, but may need cleaning before being used again:

  • Swimming Pool Skimmers and Main Drains - These can become very dirty and even clogged up with leaves and other small objects like grass clipping or dirt. Make sure that you lift the swimming pool skimmer out of the pool and clean both the top and bottom of it, checking for any obstructions. You can do this by hand or use a brush to get in between all of the cracks. The main drain can be cleaned in a similar way, but you will need to remove the drain cover and check inside for any blockages.

  • Swimming Pool Coping Stones - These are the stones that line the edge of your pool and they can also become very dirty, especially if they are not sealed properly. If they have become stained it may be difficult to clean them without using harsh chemicals. In most cases however a good scrubbing with some soapy water should do the trick.

  • Swimming Pool Tiles - Tile around the edge of your pool and the inside of the pool can become extremely dirty after a while. The tiles may also be difficult to clean because they are usually made from colored material, which means that any dirt left on them will make them stand out even more. If this is the case you should try cleaning with some bleach (make sure to test it first), or find a good quality tile cleaner and use that instead.

  • Swimming Pool Steps and Ladders - Swimming pool steps, ladders and other equipment may also need to be cleaned in between visits from the pool cleaning service. If you have a ladder installed it is important to check underneath, as well as around the edges for any leftover grime or pollen that could cause an allergic reaction if a person did not clean it before entering the water.
